Clogged Toilet

If you have a clogged toilet, you can typically get the pipe flowing again by using a plunger. If you don't have one, you can find one at most any hardware or big box store.

Push your plunger over the drainage hole and pump up and down rapidly to dislodge the clog. Be careful when performing this action and don't flush the toilet until the water drains on its own.

Bathtub/Shower Clogs

Bathtubs and shower drains typically clog when hair and other debris gets lodged in the trap. If your water isn't draining properly, you can purchase a drain cleaning tool from most hardware store. This tool should help you fish anything stuck in the pipe out.

If you lose power in your rental company, call the utility provider to troubleshoot the issue. There may be an issue with your account or localized outages in your neighborhood.

If you don't have hot water in your rental, there is likely an issue with the hot water heater. Locate your tank and check that all of the settings are accurate. Is the tank hot enough? Is the system on?

If you make any changes to the settings, wait 15 to 20 minutes before testing the water temperature again.

Is your heater gas-powered?

If you have a gas-powered water heater, you may need to verify that the pilot light is lit. Many heaters have a small button that allows you to relight the pilot if it goes out.

If your heat or air conditioning isn't working as expected, use the central thermostat in your rental to troubleshoot the issue. Make sure the system is on and check all temperature settings.
